Michelle Englot, Kate Cameron, Leslie Wilson and Raunora Westcott are one win away from representing Manitoba at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in St. Catherines.

The Granite foursome defeated Jennifer Jones 9-5 in the 1-1 page playoff game at the 2017 Provincial Scotties at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.

Englot said the team was really solid on Saturday night.

“We struggled a little early with draw weight but then once we got draw weight we seemed to get firing on all cylinders and everyone was throwing really well.”

Englot got two in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3 and then stole singles in the fifth and sixth ends and two more in the seventh.

“We had them scrambling for those four ends for sure. We were executing our shots as we wanted and getting the rolls that we needed to keep them in trouble.”

Jones got two in the eighth end to close the gap to 7-5 but Englot got that deuce right back in the ninth.

“I think they played well,” said Jones. “We weren't as sharp as we need to be and if you're going to do that this is the game to do it in. We'll have to be sharper tomorrow.”

Englot, Cameron, Wilson and Westcott have one game left and that's 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

“We'll enjoy this one first and then refocus and try to come and out just as strong tomorrow,” said Englot. “We know who ever comes out of the semifinal is going to give us a really strong game. We know we need to play as good if not better.”

Jones, who went undefeated in the round robin will meet Darcy Robertson of Pembina in the semifinal at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Robertson drew to the back four foot with her final rock of the tenth end and edged Shannon Birchard of St. Vital 7-6 in the 2-2 page playoff game.
