The Winkler Flyers have signed 17-year-old defenseman Drake Burgin for the 2018-2019 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season.

Burgin is a smooth skating, smart defender who will increase the skill level of the Flyers blueline.

Burgin played last season with the Winnipeg Wild in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League, capturing the league title.

The 6’0”, 165lbs defenseman recorded 18 points (4 goals – 14 qssists) in 44 regular season games this past year.

During the 2017-2018 Manitoba Junior Hockey League pre-season, Burgin showed very well in a Flyers’ uniform scoring two goals in the club’s first exhibition game.

“After a strong preseason with us last year and having spent time developing his game with coach Paul Kruger, we are very happy to have Drake become a member of the Winkler Flyers,” said Flyers head coach and general manager Ken Pearson.

“His ability to move pucks and defend, along with having won a championship in AAA Midget will help make him successful,” added Pearson.
