Byron Froese received the call Tuesday evening that he had been called up to the NHL.

"I was definitely was very excited to get the call and excited for the opportunity," said Froese. "Hopefully I'm wearing a Montreal Canadiens sweater tomorrow (Thursday)."

The Canadiens are in the middle of a six-game homestand and will face the Minnesota Wild tonight at the Bell Centre. The Canadiens have confirmed that Froese will make his Habs debut tonight against the Wild.

"From the response I had in camp they like my two-way game and my work ethic out there," said Froese. "We'll see what tomorrow (Thursday) brings and if I am in the lineup, we'll see what kind of role they put me in, but I'm definitely ready to take on whatever they throw at me."

Froese was sent down to the Canadiens farm team the Laval Rocket, who play in the American Hockey League, after training camp and has recorded 3 goals and 11 points in 13 games. In addition to that Froese was recently named the first captain in Rocket's history.

"To have the guys think that much of you and chose you as the leader for the team is very humbling," said Froese, who said he's more of a lead by example type of captain. "I'm very excited to be recognized like that and hopefully lead the boys to some better things."

This is Froese's seventh professional season and signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens. So far in his young NHL career, the Winkler product has 62 NHL games under his belt and five points to go along with it (2 goals and 3 assists).
