The Warren Mercs are still perfect in the post-season.

The Mercs extended their playoff winning streak to eight games thanks a 4-1 victory over the Morden Redskins Tuesday night in Warren in game one of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League's best-of-seven final.

Mitch Hansen, Wes Pawluk, Johnny Lazo and Braydon MacDonald did the goal scoring for the Mercs.

Warren goaltender Bryce Spittal made 20 saves in the series opener.

"The win goes out to the team," said Spittal who took over the starting netminding duties for the Mercs when Hayden Dola suffered a season ending knee injury late in game three of their semifinal with the Portage Islanders. "They played a complete 60 minutes. I think we moved the puck well, we got it deep and stayed down there."

Warren had 1-0 and 2-0 leads at the period breaks.

Morden forward Jared Leiding cut the deficit to 2-1 when he deflected Jordan Valentino's point shot past Spittal but that was as close as the visitors got.

The Mercs added to their lead when MacDonald and Hansen scored 2:17 apart midway through the third period.

Redskins goaltender Reed Peters faced 41 shots.

Game two is scheduled for Thursday (8 p.m.) in Morden.

"We got to get more pucks to the net," said Redskins forward Tyler Grove. "We didn't get near enough shots tonight and if we can get more shots then I think we can have some success."
