The 2018 Manitoba Open Pickleball Championship was held last month at the Dakota Field House, the home of the Jonathan Toews Sportsplex in Winnipeg.

Dave Goertzen of Winkler & Ed Giesbrect, formerly of Morden, now living in Winnipeg, captured silver in the 60-plus men’s doubles. Goertzen & Giesbrecht finished first in their division and lost out in the gold medal game.

Peter Dyck and Larry Harder of Winkler lost out in the semifinals in the played in the 50-59 men's doubles category and finished fourth.

John and Sharon Klassen of Winkler competed in the 60-plus mixed doubles category and also lost out in the semifinals and finished fourth.

Rose Sawatzky of Morden won three gold medals.

She finished first in Open singles, won the ladies doubles 19-plus with June Laffin of Kenora and also won the 19-plus with Lionel Piche of Winnipeg in mixed doubles.

Over 80 teams entered the Manitoba Open.
