The Pembina Valley region hosted the 2017 Esso Cup in Morden this past April and the host committee was fortunate to generate a legacy fund that can be used to promote the development of female hockey in the region. As part of this legacy, the host committee is offering up to $2000 in scholarships for the next five years to graduating players of the Pembina Valley Hawks AAA Midget team that are planning to attain a post-secondary education.

Applicants were asked to provide a list of their community and school involvement, a reference letter, an academic transcript, and an essay outlining the important life lessons and/or benefits that hockey has given them. They were also asked for their future plans to “leave their mark” on the sport of hockey.

This year’s successful recipients were Erin Doherty of Morden, Mackenzie Hutchinson of Manitou, and Katie Heppner of Winkler.

Erin Doherty
