Hannah Petrie scored the game winner with 12:18 left in the third period as the Pembina Valley Hawks skated to a 2-1 win over the Westman Wildcats in game two of the Manitoba Female "AAA" Midget Hockey League's (MFMHL) best-of-five final.

"We went down as a line and we lost the puck, but managed to get it back with a hard forecheck. We went in, passed it to the defence, they took a shot, and I was there for the rebound," said Petrie.

Sage McElroy-Scott was able to beat Jenna Marshall for the game's opening goal just under 2:30 into the first, with Alyssa Alderson and Toni Conrad picking up the assists on the play. From that point on nothing got past either goaltender until the final period.

"It's kind of nice. Go there (Hartney) get one and come here and get another to go up 2-0 in the series. We keep telling the girls, it's the best-of-five and they aren't going lie down. They are going to keep pushing. So we have to push back," said Pembina Valley coach Dana Bell. "We started off with a little bit of nerves and mid-way through the second we kind of got it together and kept pushing hard."

Alisha O'Hara found a puck in front of the net and put it past the blocker of Hawks net-minder Halle Oswald. Pembina Valley responded only 1:28 later when Petrie had her stick in the right place at the right time and was able to tap home a rebound to put the Hawks up for good. Kenzie Heide and Hannah Desrochers drew the helpers on the game winner.

Pembina Valley will look to capture its first MFMHL championship since the 2013-14 season in game three Sunday afternoon in Hartney at 2:00 p.m.
