The Notre Dame Hawks season came to an end Saturday night at MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg.

The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champions lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Norway House North Stars in the semifinals of the Provincial Senior “A” Hockey Championship.

“It's definitely disappointing,” said Hawks captain Steve Clark. “Especially the year we had winning the SEMHL championship in seven games. Obviously tired after that and then winning our first two provincial games was awesome. The seven-day break was just too much.”

Jason Yuel, Kyle Rous and Cale Jeffries scored in regulation for Notre Dame.

The five-minute overtime session solved nothing.

Norway House goatender Sonny Albert, who made 34 saves in regulation and two more in OT, thwarted shootout attempts by Yuel and Matt Gingera.

Steve Later and Myles Stevens both scored on Hawks netminder Brett Timmerman.

“Definitely a more physical team than we are used to,” said Clark on Saturday's loss to the North West Senior Hockey League champions. “We knew they were going to come out hard so we wanted to weather that storm as much as we could. We just didn't have enough gas in the tank. We didn't want to go to the shootout and sure enough they beat us.”

Stevens scored twice in regulation for Norway House while Cody Einarson had the other.

The North Stars will face the Tiger Hills Hockey League champion Killarney Shamrocks in the provincial final Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at MTS Iceplex.

The Shamrocks, who won the Manitoba Cup in 2016, defeated the Carberry Plainsmen 4-0 in the other semifinal.
