After posting just over a point a game throughout his first SJHL season, Morden's Cade Kowalski was nominated for Rookie of the year. A vote on the league's website resulted in the now Weyburn Redwing forward Kowalski sharing the honour with Jacob Wasserman of the Humboldt Broncos.

"I felt pretty honoured to be able to represent Weyburn like that," said Kowalski. "Just to receive such a great award and to share it with such a great player. That guy (Wasserman) is going to be going places. He's going to be a pretty good goalie in the WHL. So it's an honour."

Kowalski has been having a strong season for the Red Wings. He has averaged just over a point a game, with 60 in 58 games, including 11 goals.

Last season Kowalski played his grade 12 year with the Pembina Valley Hawks and said making the jump to Junior "A" had its challenges.

"Really just making your plays quicker and making sure that you make the simple plays and not the pretty play," said Kowalski. "I had to learn through that and the coaches helped me quite a bit with that."

Kowalski was also recently named to the SJHL's All-Rookie Team.

His performance this season has seen him earn Rookie of the Week honours on a number of occasions as well and an invite to play at the SJHL/MJHL Showcase, which was held in Regina in January.
