The Pembina Valley Orioles scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 12-5 victory over the St. James A's and tied up the best-of-five semifinal at one game a piece.

"I think we were just taking advantage of the fastballs and we were hitting them hard, barrelling them up and the wind helped on the balls in the gap," said Orioles short stop Ty Enns who reached the bases three out of four times and scored twice. "You have to take advantage of those."

The Orioles jumped on A's starter Brady Allen and roughed him up for seven runs, while only recording two outs. Meanwhile in the top half of the first St. James mustered to bring their lead off batter around to make it 7-1 after one complete inning.

The A's would score the games next runs to make it 7-3 after four. Pembina Valley's bats went quiet after the first and once again woke up in the sixth where they tallied five more times to increase their lead to nine. The leagues first place team in the regular season wouldn't quit and went to work in the seventh, bringing seven batters to the dish with five reaching, and two scoring.

After only getting two outs in the first Allen was replaced by Wyatt Kemball who finished the first and second innings. For the next three and a third Connor Schmidt was on the mound for the visiting A's, with Alex Brown coming in to record the final two outs in the Orioles half of the sixth.

Meanwhile, Orioles starter Brandon Hatley got the win with a complete game performance. He allowed five runs on three hits, walked six, hit one, and struck out seven.

"I wanted it bad. I was trying to do anything I could to get it," said Hatley. "You just want to finish your game off and get it for the team as well."

Game three of this series goes Tuesday in Winnipeg with first pitch at 7:00 at Optimist Park.
