William Vanden Berg of Winkler captured three gold medals at the 2018 Manitoba Winter Games in Cross Country Skiing.

"You don't really feel good until you've recovered from the race, but once you recovered it feels pretty cool on top of the podium," said Vanden Berg.

Vanden Berg captured gold in the Cross Country Ski 5km Classic race, 5km skate race, and his third in the relay event.

He said the skate race on Wednesday was a little harder than the rest, he added the course didn't provide a lot of time for rest.

Vanden Berg had the chance to experience more than just his sport and was able to see other athletes compete in their respective sports.

"I didn't really recognize anyone from other places. We went to go watch and I was pretty blown away to see how good these athletes are at their sports."

Hundred's of other athletes have converged in Thompson for the 2018 Manitoba Winter Games, which started Sunday with the opening ceremonies.

As of Sunday morning, South Region has collected a total of 53 medals, 16 Gold, 20 Silver, and 17 Bronze and the medal winners is as follows;
