The Morden Thunder and the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks are one win away from advancing to round two of the Zone 4 High School Hockey League playoffs.


Thunder 4 Mustangs 3
Andrew Boucher scored his third goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining in the third period as Morden edged Prairie Mountain 4-3 Tuesday night in Swan Lake. Derek Wiebe also scored for the Thunder. Kyle Devos had a pair of goals for the Mustangs. The other Prairie Mountain goal went to Luke Van De Velde. Morden goaltender Owen Dimitruk made 32 saves while Mustangs netminder Remy Bosc faced 38 shots.  Game two in the best-of-three quarterfinal goes tonight (7:30 p.m.) in Morden.


Nighthawks 5 Tigers 4 (OT)
Lucas Dyck scored his fourth goal of the game in overtime to lift Northlands Parkway past Pembina 5-4 in Winkler.  Dustin Wall's goal with 1:52 left in regulation tied the game at 4-4. Caelan Russell, Owen Fijala and Hayden Couling with a pair of third period goals, replied for the Tigers. Nighthawks goaltender Tyler Fehr stopped 31 shots. Pembina netminder Nathaniel DeGraeve made 33 saves. Game two goes tonight (7:30 p.m.) in Pilot Mound.


The Morris Mavericks face the Cougars in Carman (7:30 p.m.) tonight. The Miller Aces meet the Garden Valley Zodiacs in Winkler on Thursday. The Mavericks and Aces lead those respective series after winning the openers Monday night. Morris shutout Carman 5-0 and Miller defeated GVC 9-4.
