The Pembina Valley Twisters jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 victory over the Charleswood Hawks Sunday night at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.

Sven Schefer, T.J. Matuszewski, Braeden Beernaerts and Dylan Dacquay did the goal scoring for the Twisters who lead the best-of-seven Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League quarterfinal two games to none.

Schefer scored the only goal of the first period.

Matuszewski added a power play goal 76 seconds into the middle frame and Beernaerts extended Pembina Valley's lead to 3-0 when he scored six minutes later.

Joben Smith got the Hawks on the board as he beat Twisters goaltender Travis Klassen at 8:56 of the second period.

Matt Lawrence then scored a power play goal with 1:21 remaining before the intermission to cut Pembina Valley's lead to 3-2.

Dacquay restored the Twisters two-goal lead when he beat Charleswood netminder Ryan Hall 3:50 into the third period.

Spencer Ferbers' goal midway through the third again got the hometown Hawks back within a goal but that was as close as Charleswood would get.

Klassen finished the night making 34 saves while Hall faced 48 shots.

Game three goes Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) in Morris.
