The Pembina Valley Twisters face the St. James Canucks Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) at the Morris Recreation Complex in game one of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven final.

The Twisters eliminated the Stonewall Jets in six games in round two while the Canucks rallied from a 3-1 series deficit and beat the Transcona Railer Express 3-2 in the deciding seventh game of their semifinal.

"Early in the year St. James was one of the teams we definitely identified as a team that was going to be in the top four for sure," said Pembina Valley head coach Ryan Dyck. "They have eight or nine 21-year-olds. They convinced a few guys to come back from Junior A. Throughout the year they played a very solid game. Their goals against was the lowest in the league for three-quarters of the season but kind of slipped at the end. They play a complete game, they have lots of leadership and they got depth - all four lines and all six defenseman can play. It's going to be a good series."

The Twisters, who won the MMJHL championship in 2007-08 and 2012-13, have had a week to prepare for the team's first trip to the final in three years.

"We got to rest some bumps and bruises and the flu bug actually hit our team a little bit so the timing sort of worked out good," Dyck said. "We should be healthy heading into Wednesday. The guys are flying high and we're going to hit game one on a high note."

Dyck adds the game plan won't change for round three when they meet a Canucks team that went 29-13-3 during the regular season schedule and knocked off the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Twins and Transcona in the post-season.

"As long as we execute what are strengths are I think we'll be all right. We gotta play our game and worry about ourselves. I think at the end we'll be all right."

Game two goes Saturday at the St. James Civic Centre with game three back in Morris on Tuesday, April 23rd.
