Madison Wood will be continuing her basketball career past her grade 12 years at Morden Collegiate after committing to play for the 2018-19 season at Canadian Mennonite University.

"I'm excited to do it for sure because I really wasn't ready for it to end at the end of the season," said Wood. "It's good for me to be able to keep playing it because it's something I really enjoy."

It was simply the love of the game, which made her want to continue her basketball career further past high school.

The 5'9'' Morden Collegiate guard averaged 26 points per game this past season for the Thunder, who were undefeated in the regular season before dropping a close decision in the Interzone championships.

Other accolades for Wood are being selected as the Most Valuable Player at the Carman Collegiate Tournament, tournament All-Star at Elm Creek, and won a Player of the Game Award at the St. Norbert Collegiate Tournament.

In addition to this, she was also selected as the Female Athlete of the Year in 2017 at Morden Collegiate.

Wood said the strongest part of her game is driving the net for layups.

"They liked my speed and defensive ability," said Wood when asked what the coaches are looking for from her this upcoming season. "They want me to be able to matchup with some of the guards."

CMU drew the attention of Wood because it had was a smaller school and she felt she would be able to transition to the new setting easier.

"I think it'll be tougher competition. The girls will be bigger and better, stronger than me, and have more experience," said Wood. "It will be a bit tougher for me at the beginning, but hopefully I can work through it."
