Manitoba's COVID-19 count rose by 38 on Monday, including 12 new cases in Southern Health.

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin notes one case has been identified at a personal care home in Southern Health, Bethesda Place in Steinbach.

"An outbreak has been declared based on that one case and investigations continue," Roussin says, adding no further details are being released at this time.

Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen took to social media saying families of the residents have been notified. "I understand that staff responded quickly and appropriately when the individual was seen as symptomatic."

There was also one new case identified in the Interlake-Eastern region, 20 in the Prairie Mountain region, and five in the Winnipeg region.

Officials say they believe a majority of today's Prairie Mountain and Southern Health regional cases are linked to a known cluster.

Currently there are 11 hospitalizations, three in intensive care. There are 232 active cases and 490 individuals have recovered. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 is nine.

Testing numbers show an additional 1,716 laboratory tests were completed on Sunday, bringing the total number of tests completed since early February to 115,963.

Unless recommended by public health, only individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should go for testing. Individuals with symptoms are asked to seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms are present.

Employers are asked to only send employees for testing if they have symptoms or if testing has been recommended by public health.
