Blue Sky Opportunities in Altona gathered its sponsors together at one location for a photo opportunity this week.

The non-profit organization assists adults with intellectual disabilities and officials wanted a chance to thank its corporate partners for their generous contributions toward Blue Sky's expansion project. One of those partners is Golden West Radio which has committed $100,000 toward the project.

"This is an important project for the community and we are happy to help," said Elmer Hildebrand, CEO of Golden West Radio. "It's such a needed facility as it enables those who are challenged to live a more productive life. For those who have not come to the table to provide support, I would encourage them to do so, because they'll never be sorry for supporting these kinds of organizations."

The other platinum sponsors on this project include Elmer's Manufacturing and West Park Motors which have pledged $50,000 each, and Friesens Corporation. Friesens has earmarked $100,000 toward the expansion. President and CEO, Curwin Friesen says it's easy to support Blue Sky because it does a lot of good work in the community.

"Few people know the extent and the size of Blue Sky, the number of staff that are employed, the number of people they support and the families that are involved. If Friesens can be involved in a major project like this, which has such a cross section of benefits to the community, then we're very happy to do that."

Meanwhile, the fundraising campaign is going well and has now climbed to $425,000, according to campaign chairman Ray Loewen. That's close to the halfway point in their goal to raise $900,000.

"A lot of the preliminary work we did was with the corporate donors, most of which is represented in the $425,000," said Loewen. "We are beginning our community wide fundraising efforts right now and giving individuals a chance to contribute over the next month as well."

Loewen adds, support for Blue Sky Opportunities in Altona has always been very strong and he's confident it will remain strong in connection to the expansion project, with the hope of wrapping up the fundraising efforts this year.
