The busy week continued Tuesday for members of Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services as the calls continued to roll in.

The first came in at 8:18 p.m. for a brush fire on Tall Grass Lane in Altona.

Fire Chief Greg Zimmerman explains the fire had been illegally set by a contractor looking to clear some brush. He reminds residents of a local bylaw that forbids open fires within town limits.

Then at 11:28 p.m. members were dispatched to a tree fire on Poplar Drive.

Zimmerman says the gusty winds involved in the evening's thunderstorm caused the tree branches to come into contact with nearby power lines.

A third call for service came in at 3:19 a.m. of an alarm call, caused by the power outage during the storm, at a site in the Altona Industrial Park.

Finally, Zimmerman was notified Wednesday morning that Monday's garbage fire at the Altona/Rhineland Landfill was beginning to re-ignite. Fire fighters did not attend this call as Zimmerman says the recent rainfall helped contain the flames.
