There's a number of different and creative activities taking place in the Pembina Valley Halloween night.

Winkler resident Art Friesen has spent the last few days decorating his home with his kids creating a fun and spooky attraction for the neighbourhood.

"I know the history of Halloween, I understand that part so we’ve tried to separate ourselves from that part of it. I enjoy any time of the year scaring my kids, so this is another time I can scare mine and someone else’s."

Friesen started five years ago when his kids begged him to set up some decorations. Beginning with only one light and a spider, Friesen has created an entire experience with this year’s scarecrow themed display.

The elaborate decorations are a community effort with assistance from Valley Zorbs, Valley Bowl, Prints Co., and J.R. Bearings.

Over the weekend there have already been a number of Halloween activities including La Rivier’s Kids Halloween Fund Day, Carman’s Halloween Carnival, Morden’s Halloween at the Access Event Centre, all which were well attended.

Tonight the Winkler Mennonite Church begins its Halloween Tradition with their Kids for Jesus Carnival.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. coordinator Charmayne Harder says it’s a family-friendly event for people to dress up and have fun with a Christian spin on the holiday.

"Our vision for the event is to show Jesus’ love for families in our community by offering a safe family-friendly atmosphere for people to enjoy on October 31."

Harder invites everyone to come to the church, costumes optional, to take part in fun activities and enjoy candy and refreshments.
