Myrna Wiebe, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with Access Credit Union (ACU) is raising money for STARS Air Ambulance.

The fundraiser called STARS Rescue on the Island will airlift Wiebe and seven other Executives and Business leaders from across Southern Manitoba, dropping them in a remote location.

"Our task is to do a variety of different challenges. There will be some survival challenges, some rescue challenges," explains Wiebe. "Throughout the day we will be contacting family, friends, colleges, and business partners, to raise money to return us back to civilization."

Wiebe has set a goal of $50,000 and can't leave the area until she has reached her goal.

STARS Air Ambulance is an emergency helicopter air ambulance that transports some of the most critical patients in Western Canada.

STARS operates from three bases in Alberta, two in Saskatchewan, and one in Manitoba.

An important resource to Southern Manitoba, during the 2016 - 2017 fiscal year, STARS flew 619 mission from their home base in Winnipeg.

A charitable, non-profit organization, STARS relies on funding from the Government, Corporations and community support to fund their helicopters, emergency physicians, and 24-hour emergency medical communications centre.

Excited to be working with STARS, Wiebe tells us how she and ACU became involved with STARS.

"STARS approached me to join this because of the philosophical ways STARS and ACU align. It takes a community to raise a child, it takes a community to save lives. ACU is all about serving the community and being a part of the communities we serve."

Wiebe shares that she's apprehensive about flying in a helicopter since she's never been in one before.

However, Wiebe says it's an honour to be working with STARS.

Early fundraising has begun, and the group flies out to begin their challenges on September 14.
