The Garden Valley School Division has been approved for 3 additional portable classrooms for two of its city schools. Two will be placed at Parkland and one will be moved to

GVSD Superintendent Vern ReimerJ.R. Walkof.

Superintendent Vern Reimer said at J.R., the portable will help address needs brought on by increased enrollment, and at Parkland the extra space will make it possible to create an additional kindergarten room, to house a third a kindergarten class.

Reimer noted the 2nd classroom for kindergarten at Parkland will be located in the main building of the school, while it's likely the new portables will be occupied by middle years students.

Reimer said the portables will meet the division's needs, temporarily.  "At the same time we're still waiting for the new school to be awarded, because in the end that will be the longer term relief," said Reimer.  Reimer said when that happens, they will move roughly 200 students from J.R. Walkof and Emerado, Winkler Elementary, and Parkland to that new school in the Pine Ridge area.

With this approval, GVSD will have 43 portables in use come September.
