Over a hundred people in Altona, who had baseball on their minds, gathered at Access Field Friday night where they braved the frigid temperatures to help make a video.

Altona Minor Baseball and the Altona Bisons have applied to the Jays Care Foundation for an $85,000 grant which would go towards installing lights at the Junior diamond.

"We've been working on a project to light up Access Field baseball Diamond," said organizer Curwin Friesen. "We've been raising money and we made an application in November to the Blue Jays Care Foundation and we were told just after Christmas that we were a finalist."

However, in order to move forward in their application, the Jays Care Foundation requires that all finalists put together a town rally video.

"So we had a baseball rally and about 125 people came out and braved the cold to help light up Access Field. Everybody brought flashlights and we did a big scene shot behind home plate cheering a home run. Then we had everybody line the infield and turn on their flashlights and we had someone running around the bases. This will be some of the video that we're going to use as part of our application."

The deadline to submit the video is January 31 and the Foundation is expected to make an announcement on a grant recipient sometime in May.
