Altona Police Service have finished their Back to School Campaign, which took place in September.

Last month the Altona Police Service partnered with Manitoba Public Insurance so that police staff could work overtime to issue tickets and warnings around school zones. The costs of the overtime shifts were fully covered by a grant from MPI.

Although the campaign is centred around school zones in Altona and Plum Coulee, police service issued warnings and tickets throughout both communities.

A total of 28 tickets were given out over a period of 5 overtime shifts.

Many of the speeding infractions happened in school zones. Police also issued tickets for unregistered vehicles, cell phone use while driving, and failing to wear a seatbelt. Fines ranged from $300 and over, with possible demerits.

Over the next few months the Altona Police Department will continue to partner with MPI in the Road Watch Program. This program concentrates on impaired and distracted driving.

Altona police urge motorists to do their part in keeping the roads safe.
