Altona police are again reminding vehicle owners that it only takes a second to lock it or lose it. The warning comes after three men were seen rummaging through unlocked cars in the Elmwood Apartments parking lot earlier this week.

Police got the call around midnight on Wednesday, and upon arrival were handed one adult male who had been caught by a citizen inside one of the vehicles. A search of the highly intoxicated man yielded a folding knife in his pocket. Since the incident, police have learned that the 27 year old Roseau River man had just been released from prison where he did time for manslaughter. He was taken into custody was charged with break and enter and was released in the morning when sober.

Police urge the public to call 911 or the Altona Police Service at 204-324-5353 in the event that they see or hear suspicious activity, and to not put themselves into a dangerous situation. Witnesses should instead try to keep an eye on the individuals and call police immediately.
