Members of Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services responded to 15 calls for service over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

According to Fire Chief Greg Zimmerman, all of the calls took place during the winter storm on Friday and Saturday.

Eight of the incidents involved power lines, 4 related to fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, and there was 1 call each for medical assist, false alarm and a stovetop fire.

Zimmerman adds an average of 12 members responded to each call, with another handful available upon further request. He says because of this dedication, the department was able to send firefighters and equipment to incidents happening simultaneously.

"I would like to thank our members who left or were willing to leave their families in the middle of a storm in order to aid the people of our communities," said Zimmerman.
