The giant Van Gogh 'Sunflowers' painting in Altona has come down. A crane has lowered the 7x10 metre art piece from the towering 23 metre high easel that sits along 10th Ave. NE in preparation for some restoration work. Original artist Cameron Cross will be arriving some time this month to repair hail damage the painting sustained two years ago, as well as apply a restoration coating to further reduce any future wear-and-tear.

A hydraulic lift will also be installed on the easel making it easier to lower the painting and raise it back up in the future.
