A series of disturbing animal remains have been found in the Minto area, 15 kilometres south of Brandon.  On Sunday, March 26, 2017, Brandon RCMP received a report of a dead goat that was found in a ditch with its back legs tied and its ears removed.  As well a dead miniature pony was found in nearby proximity, also with its ears removed.

The animals were found in separate ditches approximately three days apart in the RM of Whitewater, Manitoba. Since then, RCMP received an additional report of the discovery of animal remains, also in a nearby ditch.  Three coyotes and a raccoon were located, deceased with their ears removed.

RCMP are investigating this series of grisly findings and are asking the public to come forward with any information.

RCMP Media Relations Officer, Tara Seel, says there is a multitude of reasons why the animals have had their ears removed, but until they are further into the investigation, they don`t want to speculate. ``At this point, it’s too early in the investigation and we don't want to jump to too many conclusions or get into too many hypotheticals.  We are very much investigating this and trying to find answers to the many questions.``

Officer Seel says they are asking the public`s help in this investigation.  She urges residents to contact police if they know of anything that sounds suspicious with regards to this series of incidents, and not to assume that police know. As well, she says if anyone is missing any animals such as pets or livestock that seems suspicious, to contact RCMP immediately.

``I can appreciate that there is concern within the community and I can assure you that the RCMP are investigating thoroughly and fully and actively, but again, don’t assume that police know.  If you have any information at all please call the Brandon RCMP Detachment or if you’d like to remain anonymous you can call Manitoba Crime Stoppers.  So we’re really asking for the public’s assistance in this.``
