Garden Valley School Division has filled a number of vacant administrative positions.

One of the spots is at Border Valley School in the Village of Reinland. The role originally became available when former Border Valley Principal, Renae Hildebrand took on the principalship at Pine Ridge Elementary in Winkler. For the remainder of this school year, the position was filled as a term and was subsequently posted as a permanent position.

"We're excited, that Donovan Giesbrecht, the individual who took the term principal position, also applied and accepted the permanent position at Border Valley," said GVSD Superintendent, Todd Monster.

The principal position at Garden Valley Collegiate has also been filled for the 2019/2020 school year. "Long-serving principal, Scott Jantzen announced his retirement this year, opening up a position there that needed to be filled. We are happy to say that Carrie Friesen has accepted that position."

Friesen will be a familiar face at GVC. Prior to taking on the principal's role at Parkland Elementary School in Winkler for this current school year, Friesen was the vice-principal at the Winkler high school.

Meanwhile, new to Prairie Dale School in Schanzenfeld next year will be the addition of a half-time vice principal. 13-year veteran teacher Anny Froese will take on the role while filling the other half of her day teaching in the classroom.

Monster said an increase in enrollment forced the creation of the position. "With the Pine Ridge Elementary opening, some families in Reinfeld were given the option to go into Schanzenfeld, and numerous families chose that as their first preference. That ended up increasing the enrolment at Southwood as well as Prairie Dale schools."

The appointments take effect for the 2019/2020 school year.
