Despite widening the street late this summer, reports are still coming in of unsafe driving practices in front of Carman Elementary. Calls to the town office indicate double-parked vehicles along 2nd Street South West.

Mayor Bob Mitchell is encouraging people to instead make those calls to the local RCMP.

While Sergeant Jo-Anne Prejet says no reports have been made as of yet, she does have some safety advice following last weeks record snow fall.

"It's just common sense that people have to make adjustments in all kinds of ways because of the weather, the snow, the streets and you compound it with children coming around snowbanks...and the safety factor. We don't want something bad to happen, we will tow people if we have to that are in the way for traffic or in a dangerous situation."

She defines double-parking as a driver leaving their vehicle in a space that is blocking other vehicles and making the road inaccessible during an emergency. Prejet also says that double-parking creates difficulty in seeing and disrupts the flow of traffic.

"We have to understand that it takes time to get the snow out of the way from parking lots and driveways...so people are going to park in areas that aren't acceptable and we hope it's very very temporary."

Meantime, there are also reports of drivers pulling U-turns in the middle of the street near the school. Prejet says this move is never acceptable.

"We don't always see it but we know people are doing it...it puts everybody at risk."
