About 50 riders from the Southern Manitoba Hog Chapter hit the road on their Harleys this past weekend for their annual toy run.

Each year the toys collected are brought to the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg for the common toy room and some will go directly to the children staying there for longer periods.

Mark Braun's daughter, Heidi was named the ambassador for this year's event. 2 1/2 years ago, Heidi was diagnosed with an optic pathway glioma and has spent a lot of time in and out of Children's Hospital.

Braun says the efforts by groups like the Southern Manitoba Hog Chapter, are very much are appreciated. "There's a lot of effort, time, and a lot of donations that go into the children at Children's Hospital, and it's good that there are these kinds of events, and there are groups that organize these kinds of events to support that."

The 7th annual hog toy run held over the weekend drew around 50 riders and their passengers.

Organizer Sherri Klassen says they collected over $15,000 worth of toys, which is about $2,000 more than last year and a new record for the event.
