Morden's local Canadian Parents for French group organized a French dance for students Thursday night at the Maple Leaf School gymnasium.

Sara Convery is the president of CPF in Morden, and was thrilled with how the "Bilingual Bop" went over with those who attended.

"[It} turned out great," she shared in an email. "The gym was packed with people and the kids had a great time."

The dance was aimed at French immersion students, but welcomed all students who were interested.

"We're just promoting it as a fun way to learn a few French phrases, be exposed to some French music, things like that," said Convery.

In preparation for the dance, Convery sent out flyers to the elementary students at Maple Leaf and Minnewasta schools with simple French words and questions on them, like how to request to have your face painted in French.

"In Morden, we're an English speaking community so any opportunity that we can provide for kids to use their French outside of school I think is really beneficial," said Convery.

CPF is a national organization that promotes French second language opportunities for young Canadians. Morden's chapter has recently been revived after dissolving a few years ago.

"Most of the parents involved in CPF have children in French immersion," Convery said, "and we're looking to provide more French language opportunities to them."

Being part of the CPF gives these parents discounts and special access to resources otherwise hard to come by.
