Brandon Burley is the Mayor of Morden.

Burley was elected with 1334 votes, beating out Karla Warkentin (1112 votes) and Ron McClain (267 votes). Burley will lead the new council which includes incumbents Doug Frost and Hank Hildebrand as well as newcomers Jim Hunt, Garry Hiebert, Gord Maddock and Nancy Penner.

Rich Harries and Ray Reidle were not elected.

Seeing the results Burley says, his first thoughts were a feeling of disbelief.

"I've hoped for this outcome for five years and planned towards this. I never expected in anything than my wildest dreams that this would be the outcome."

Burley says over the campaign, he was pleased that between him and his opponents it became a campaign of ideas, and one of vision for Morden.

After taking on the city's top spot, Burley says he wants to help nurture the community's identity, "we aren't quite sure who we are and where we're supposed to be going. We need to ensure that what we are as a community is not lost simply because we are growing."

With two children in Maple Leaf School and one starting kindergarten next year, Burley says education is another pressing issue, adding no child should be left behind academically.

"Starting from day one I understand that I work for everyone in Morden. I'm not just there to serve my supporters, I'm there to serve everyone."

Originally from Calgary, Burley says he never felt at home till he moved to Morden. With a background in real estate economics and a member of an advocacy committee that engages in provincial and federal levels of government, he hopes to take those experiences and apply them as mayor.

The support from everyone was indispensable says Burley and wants to thank everyone for their support.

"The residents of Morden in particular, for taking me in and giving me an opportunity as an outsider," says Burley. "That means an awful lot to me it's overwhelming that they were willing to do that."
