UPDATE 11:00 a.m January 31:

A 24-year-old Winkler resident is facing weapon charges after the Regional Support Tactical Team executed a search warrant Tuesday afternoon.

The Regional Support Tactical Team, entered into a firearms investigation at a residence in the 200 block of 14th Street.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., investigators arrested an adult female outside the home.  A short time later, the Regional Support Tactical Team executed a search warrant on the house, finding no additional occupants.

A search of the home resulted in the seizure of ammunition, a small quantity of methamphetamine, and two replica firearms.

Officers continued the investigation into the evening, and as a result of this investigation, the 24-year-old female resident will be charged with possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of methamphetamine.  She was released on a Promise to Appear with an Undertaking to abide by several conditions.  She is set to appear in Morden Provincial Court on April 10, 2018.

The Winkler Police Service and the Regional Support Tactical Team would like to thank the members of the public who may have been inconvenienced during this incident while pedestrian and vehicular traffic was diverted from the area.  Our officers are grateful for the consistent cooperation from the public as we continue to investigate the illegal acquisition of firearms in our community.

UPDATE 6:50 p.m January 30:

One woman is in custody after a firearms warrant was executed by the Regional Support Tactical Team at a residence on 14 St. in Winkler Tuesday afternoon.

Winkler Police report ammunition, meth and replica firearms were seized as a result. The incident remains under investigation.

Winkler Police responded to an incident on 14th St. Tuesday afternoon.

Police services closed a portion of the street while the Regional Support Tactical Team conducted an operation at a residence.

The team, made up of officers from the Morden, Winkler and Altona police services, rolls into action during high-risk situations using specialized equipment including heavy bullet proof vests, Kevlar helmets, Daniel Defense rifles and specialized lighting tools. They're deployed in situations such as hostage negotiation/rescue, armed and barricade scenarios, high risk traffic stops and, most frequently, drug and firearm related search warrants.

According to one eye-witness account, police arrived after 3:00 p.m and escorted a woman into custody. Officers also reportedly used a bullhorn calling additional occupants to exit the residence.

Police also blocked off parts of Salem Crescent directly behind the residence.
