Continued high winds and extremely dry conditions have forced officials to indefinitely shut down the burn area at the Carman Transfer Station. This means branches and other burn products will not be received until there is a substantial rainfall.

Officials say if things remain dry leading up to the May long weekend, branch pickup in the Town of Carman will be postponed until later in the season.

The transfer station will however remain open during scheduled working hours to accept all other items.

Residents are also being reminded that the burning of any yard waste is not allowed at any time within town limits. And while the Town hasn't implemented a burn ban as of yet, officials urge extreme caution when starting fires in recreation fire pits.

Meantime, the R.M. of Dufferin is also asking property owners in the municipality of refrain from any sort of burning as the tinder-dry conditions persist.
