The Morris Army Cadet program moved to St. Pierre earlier this year and a spokesperson says the move wasn't easy.

Captain Roxanne Maynard is the Commanding Officer of 32-34 Royal Army Cadet Corps. The group held its year-end event last Thursday and Maynard says it was a busy year. She notes they were notified back in September that the legion in Morris was looking to sell its building due to financial difficulties. Maynard adds they were told that they could remain there for the remainder of the year but had to start looking for a new location to facilitate their program on Thursday nights. So they made the move in February.

"It has been quite a struggle. We had been looking, we looked around in Morris and asked different organizations to see if they could help us and support us in this. There was no area big enough to accommodate us so we decided to start looking on the outside of Morris and the community of St. Pierre has decided to step up and take us on as one of our sponsors."

Maynard says a large majority of their cadets come from the St. Pierre, St. Malo, Stuartburn and Kleefeld area so, in the end, it was a good fit for them. She adds despite some difficulties they had a good year with a great group of students.

"This group of kids is actually very amazing, we get to know them very well. With the move, it’s been hard. Since February we left the legion so we had to pack everything up, we had been in the Legion since 2011 so it had been a long time. Everybody helped out and pitched in, parents, cadets. Without the parents, we wouldn't be very far either. We've grown into a very big family so when we come here it’s like family."

She notes it's thanks to a great group of parents and volunteers that they were able to make this move and the remainder of the year possible.
