A local resident had a frightening commute this morning, ending in a car fire.

Winkler Firefighters were on scene Friday morning to put out a burning car at the Co-op Truck Stop on PTH 14.

The driver explains her vehicle was having issues on her way to work, "I couldn't go past 80 km/h".

After arriving and shutting off the vehicle she became locked in her unresponsive vehicle. She had to force the locks up manually before exiting.

Upon opening the hood she discovered the engine was on fire.

Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the blaze.

While especially concerning considering the vehicle was just recently purchased, the driver said she was thankful the incident ended without injury.
