The reconstruction of PTH 13 through Carman is going a lot quicker than expected.

"It's going really good. They've (crews) accomplished a lot more than they anticipated," said Mayor Bob Mitchell, noting some mill and overlay work north of the railway tracks that wasn't scheduled until next year.

"It's all paved...and the shoulders are all built up. Once you get past the tracks it's wide open," he added.

Mitchell credits the progress to the good weather that southern Manitoba experienced this past summer with dry conditions and very little rain to delay work.

As for the portion of road running from the railway tracks south to the intersection of PTH 3, Mitchell said the east side lanes are now finished and he expects crews to start paving the west side lanes sometime this week.

A final coat of pavement will be applied to both sides of the highway next year, along with the construction of sidewalks.
