Much of the day on Sunday was spent on the scene of a structure fire for members of Morden Fire Rescue.

Shortly before 9:00 a.m., crews were dispatched to a barn fire on Road 8 North around 5 miles south of Morden.

Deputy Fire Chief Tim Reimer says they arrived to find the blaze fully involved with flames coming out of the building. "We did contain it to just the barn area," said Reimer.

The 30-foot by 70-foot barn was used for chickens, sheep, and feed storage for the animals. Reimer says, unfortunately, all the chickens, around 75 of them, perished in the blaze. "No harm was done to the sheep. They were all moved far enough away and protected."

The property owners were home at the time and were not hurt.

Reimer says the barn is a total loss, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Meanwhile, the Winkler Fire Department was called in to help with their water tanker.
