A child was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre on August 3rd after receiving minor injuries from being hit by a motor vehicle.

Morden police report the motor vehicle accident involving a child took place in the parking lot of Riverside Villa in Morden. Around 7:00 p.m police were called by the driver of a vehicle indicating he was travelling west through the parking lot and heard a noise. He immediately stopped and realized that he hit a little child and the mother was nearby.  

The child was transported to Boundary Trails Hospital by the driver along with the mother and treated for his injuries that included a cut on the forehead and cut and scrapes to his shoulder and hip. He was kept in overnight for observation.  

Police continue to investigate.

Police are also investigating a report of a vehicle intentionally running into a cyclist.

Around 8:30 p.m on August 13th, a cyclist was riding west bound in the alley by Canada Post and was run into several times. There were words exchanged between the female driver and the cyclist just prior to this incident with threats made by the driver to run over the cyclist. The cyclist received injuries but did not require medical attention.  

Police have since located the suspect vehicle and are continuing their investigation.

On July 31st, police received an anonymous call around 3:55 a.m of an intoxicated male outside the Tabor Apartments on 9th Street south in Morden.  

Police attended and located a male suspect, known to police, leaning up against the side of the building, very intoxicated and unsteady on his feet. The 31-year-old male from Winkler was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. He was release several hours later without charges.

On August 1st, police received a call from an employee at the Morden Thrift Store reporting some items taken from the drop off area. The theft was captured on surveillance and is currently under investigation. Police are reminding the public that items dropped off in this area are the property of the Morden Thrift Store and are not to be removed. There is a designated area with free items that is separate from the drop off area. Police are continuing their investigation with the possibility of charges.

On August 8th, police received a report of a hit and run to a vehicle that occurred on August 4th between 9:45 am and 6:00 pm in front of 317 Stephen Street in Morden. The damage is on the front bumper area of a 1997 black Toyota MR2 turbo. On August 10th police have charged a 37-year-old man from Carman with two counts of assault following a domestic incident.  Police were called to a residence around 10:53 pm where the victim locked herself in the bathroom to avoid further confrontation with her fiancé.  The victim and the accused had got into an argument, which led to one of the victim’s children stepping in between.  The accused pushed the child into a wall and then punched the mother in the face.  The accused will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in September.

On August 12th, a 30-year-old male from Morden has been remanded into custody following two assaults that took place during separate incidents. The accused and his 31-year-old girlfriend were both on Undertakings with conditions not to have any contact or communication with each other. The 31-year-old female made a complaint that the accused had, on two separate occasions, pushed her into a hot light bulb resulting in burns to her shin as well as kicked her in the shins. The accused is charged with one count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Assault and two counts of Breach of Undertaking.  He was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Portage Provincial Court on August 14th.  

The 31-year-old Victim in this situation is also facing charges of Assault with a Weapon and Breach of Undertaking.  The accused reports that on August 11th, he and the victim were in a disagreement, which resulted in the victim throwing a pair of pliers, striking him in the cheek.  She will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in September.  

August 13th, around 12: 25 am, police observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Nelson Street and conducted a check of the license plate.  The registration came back inactive and the vehicle was stopped.  The vehicle had numerous beer bottles on the floor of the vehicle.  The driver admitted there was a small quantity of marihuana inside the vehicle in a plastic bag in open view.  The 21-year-old female from Morden was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Drive Unregistered Vehicle and a warning for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

August 13th, a red Mastercraft lawn mower was stolen from an unlocked shed on Rampton Street in Morden sometime between August 8th and this date.
