A community came together Saturday to celebrate the unique cultures of the people who create the city of Morden.

The 10th annual Morden Multicultural Winterfest had booths and activities where people could learn about the cultures of their neighbours and become closer as a community.

10 years is a long time and would not have been possible without the hard work of everyone who is involved says a Winterfest organizer and Immigration Coordinator for Morden Shelly Voth.

"There's been a lot of volunteers, there's been a lot of passionate people on the committee for the past 10 years. This is something our community really loves, so this is something that's a lot of fun to put on, a lot of people come out and that's encouraging for doing it for another year."

Junjie Grace Hu has attended the event a number of times. Grace had a booth and answered questions people had about Chinese culture and shared about the second day of Chinese New Year, the year of the dog.

Having lived in Canada for a number of years now Grace says she tries to share the friendliness and encouragement she felt when she first moved to Canada to immigrants beginning their new lives.

For those who have not lived in Canada, it is encouraging to see so many celebrate their culture and learn more about the others around them says Yuliia Lavrova.

Lavrova moved from Ukraine two months ago and was excited to experience Winterfest.

"I was very surprised because I did not expect that there would be so many people here. Everyone introduced their countries, it was very charming. I felt welcomed and I was surprised. I am very emotional and I am happy to have been here."
