Strong, pop-up thunderstorms in the Red River Valley and Southeastern Manitoba made it a noisy Friday afternoon and evening in some areas. CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner tells us enough instability developed during the day to kick off these storms, which did not trigger severe thunderstorm watches from Environment Canada.

There there have been some reports of trees being uprooted, branches being snapped off and small yard items being tossed around. Most of these have been coming from the Village of Reinfeld located just east of Winkler.

There were also a number of power outages in the Sturgeon Creek area of Winnipeg where it appears a lightning strike at a substation affected just over 1,000 customers.

There's a good chance of more thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and this evening throughout much of Southern Manitoba.
