Residents of Morden may have noticed the development of land in the city's northwest corner.

Designation for this land will be for residential, institutional, and mixed-use; and if they receive funding, the location of the future school shares Morden Mayor, Brandon Burley.

This development is to accommodate Morden's continual growth. Burley says the city is developing the area in such a way as to allow them to manage the supply of new housing while maintaining property values in the community.

"We're trying to make sure that we keep supply and demand in balance without unduly handcuffing the free market. If we undercut the market, we get homes that don't keep pace with inflation, and we're trying to avoid that situation."

Burley explains that if they overwhelm the market with housing, the values will plummet.

He notes it needs to be the priority of council to guarantee that the city continues to grow and prosper.

"That momentum is created through jobs. We have to work on the economy; we have to ensure that people have access to jobs, that we have a good quality of living and low taxes, that we have good infrastructure, and good programming. That's what attracts people to the community, and that's what keeps them here."

Council will deliver their first strategic plan at the State of the City Address on April 5. Burley says this will show the direction and priority of council over the next three and a half years.
