The president of the Royal Canadian Legion in Carman is offering his thoughts on the updated poppy campaign launched by the national veteran organization.

A digital version of the traditional poppy is now available online by donation. Canadians are able to customize the image in remembrance of a fallen comrade or loved one, and share it on various social media platforms.

"Everything's going digital. More and more we turn to social media to show our support for causes that are important to us," said Kyrke Nussey.

Money raised through the digital and traditional poppy campaigns goes back to Legion branches across Canada and is used to support local veterans. Nussey expects this new-age poppy to add to the fundraising total in Carman.

"We raise, through our Poppy Fund, about eight thousand dollars a year. This year we're hoping to raise maybe another two or three thousand dollars."

Nussey adds the traditional red poppy remains available by donation at various spots throughout the region.
