A familiar name is in the running to be the next president of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM).

Doug Dobrowolski previously held the position between 2008 and 2015 before stepping down to pursue another opportunity. Entering his 27th year as a councillor with the R.M. of Macdonald, he feels this combination of experience has provided him with the skill set to lead the provincial lobby group once again.

With 48 percent of all municipal officials new to the job following October's civic vote, we asked Dobrowolski if he thought his experience would be an asset to the lobby group in the next term.

"I think it's very important and I think they are looking for someone that they can rely on to lead this organization," he explained. "I'm ready for it."

Dobrowolski added he's had a number of people contact him asking him to run for the job. "I feel I have enough support and confidence that people trust me to lead this organization."

If elected at the AMM convention at the end of November, Dobrowolski says he has a handful of priorities he'd like to see through.

The list includes secured and predictable funding for municipal programs, particularly infrastructure. He added he'd also like to see the Municipal Road Improvement Program get restored.

With a federal election just one year away and a provincial vote scheduled for 2020, Dobrowolski says it will be crucial to ensure municipalities are heard and the issues are brought forward.

Also making a bid for the top job is Ralph Groening, Reeve for the R.M. of Morris and current vice president of AMM.
