Officials at the Altona Memorial Hospital are one step closer to furnishing the facility's emergency room with an ultrasound machine, thanks to another significant donation from the community.

On Thursday, representatives with Friesens Corp. presented administrators with a $10,000 cheque towards the effort.

"We are grateful to the community for their generous support. The doctors at Altona Clinic look forward to using this important diagnostic tool in the Emergency Room," said Connie Friesen, office manager for the Altona Clinic.

The latest donation will be used to pay for the technology which was ordered in October.

Spearheaded by the medical team at the Altona Clinic this summer, the initiative to raise $60,000 quickly took off thanks to personal donations made by the doctors as well as a swell of community support. By mid-October, the effort had already generated about $50,000.
