Students from kindergarten to grade three at Ecole Elmwood School in Altona got a taste of culture on Thursday.

The School held it's first multicultural event with several guest volunteers from all over Manitoba sharing their culture with the students. Several stations were set up around the school featuring things like African drumming, indigenous games, and even indigenous drama, just to name a few.

"It makes sense to talk about cultures at Elmwood school and the different cultural groups that make up our community," said teacher Bonnie Friesen. "This is important because we live in a multicultural world and our kids are listening, hearing and welcoming new people into their school, classrooms, and neighbourhoods. This is just one way of making them more aware of who we are as a group."

Friesen added this is the first event of it's kind to be held at Ecole Elmwood, and felt it was a big hit. She hopes the students took home a better understanding of who their friends and neighbours are.
