Fairy gardening is gaining momentum and becoming increasingly popular in Winkler and surrounding area.

A smaller version of a regular garden, fairy gardens present small plants, houses, outdoor structures and furnishings that give people the illusion of tiny fairy creatures living in them.

Often people plant fairy gardens in a secluded spot so when someone stumbles upon them they feel like they are seeing a magical location.

Fairy gardens are also normally filled with whimsical items so it's easier to see and feel the magic

Fairy gardens have proven to come in all shapes and sizes from very small to larger at the base of a tree, under a shrub, tucked inside an old birdbath or peeking out from under a leaf.

Floral Scents employee Megan Hildebrand says making a fairy garden is about getting creative.

"So building little environments and scenes in between plants including accessories, so I think that's what makes it so exciting for people just getting back into gardening in a new way and in a way that you can include the kids too. We have had a lot of interest here at the shop, So much in fact that we actually started fairy gardening workshops. The first workshop we held was full within and hour."

Hildebrand added she has been fairy gardening with her daughter for awhile now, noting she loves it and believes it brings back the interest in gardening for kids by allowing them to be invested in their own little garden.
