The community of Carman has been buzzing with activity this past week as a film crew set up shop in the small town, shooting scenes in the downtown area and residential spots for an upcoming movie. Break My Heart 1,000 Times is described as a post-apocalyptic romantic thriller.

Carman-Dufferin Economic Development Officer, Tyler King, says having the crew and actors in town has been a great experience, adding it's been fun to see the process unfold.

"There are a tonne of trucks around and people, it's been very good to see."

He notes seeing Carman be temporarily transformed into Jewel City, Illinois has been quite interesting, adding some local businesses have undergone makeovers.

King adds some filming has also taken place in an area cemetery and behind Carman Collegiate

For the most part, he says businesses have been quite willing to work with the film crew and the production company has been good about compensating retailers for their time and loss of customers during filming. King adds citizens have also been really understanding about road closures and reduced access to downtown.

Meantime, King feels the movie shoot has had a positive effect on Carman, bringing with it a variety of economic benefits. He explains that the influx of people that have arrived in town has also brought money into the community, noting that the visitors are spending time at local stores and restaurants.

King adds the three-hundred paid positions created by this production, and filled by local residents, have also been a benefit to Carman. "Some of that money (earned) does end up in the community."

Overall, he says he is looking at the long-term benefits of hosting a film shoot.

"This good be good for our community when people see the film and maybe they...recognize it, some people may not, but we're definitely quite excited to be a part of something like this."
