The Office of the Fire Commissioner has put out a recall for two styles of fire extinguishers under the brand name Kidde or Garrison.

The recall has been made for extinguishers made between 1973 and August 15, 2017.

Morden Fire Department Chief Andy Thiessen says both manufacturers used the same valve body on their extinguishers.

"If you have a fire extinguisher that has a metal valve body on the top. That is not one of the ones that are on recall," says Thiessen. "The ones that are involved in the recall are the ones with the plastic valve body."

Thiessen says the issue with these recalled extinguishers is they've become clogged or require excessive force to activate. He adds they can even run the risk of failing to discharge or have the nozzle detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard and should be replaced.

He went on to say it's important to go check any of the fire extinguishers you may have to ensure they will work properly if you happen to need them.
