Since helping battle a fire along the Canada/US border last week, Emerson and Dominion City firefighters are catching a break.

Emerson Fire Chief Jeff French estimates the two departments spent about 8 to 10 hours fighting the border fire. He added they haven't been called to a fire since then.

A still frame of a video taken of the border fire, which took place approximately 12 miles east of Emerson.

"That was our last call, we got some rain not too long after that call and that kind of greened things up and everything's been quiet so far," said French.

The Municipality of Emerson-Franklin has since lifted their fire ban, but French says to use caution.

"I would definitely say be very cautious if you're burning, although we did lift our fire ban, still be mindful," he said, adding not to leave campfires unattended.

He noted a burning permit is required for open burning outside of a pit, which needs to be applied for the at the municipal office.
